Inclusivity matters has been developed to remove barriers that many of our autistic community feel when journeying in life and on our railways : our stations, surrounding areas and travelling by train. After passenger consultation, steering groups and feedback from Autistic support groups we are trying to implement a series of projects to deliver a change of awareness, education, support and inclusivity to obtain more positive journeys for all & better society as a whole.
One theme was raising awareness of what autism is to all passengers and staff through educational sessions by travelling classroom on the train. The travelling classroom project will involve 10 train sessions with autistic and non autistic children aged from 8 + providing an engaging short fun delivery of understanding difference, what it’s like to be autistic, strengths of autism and that everyone is unique. Seeking children from some of most deprived areas along the line and providing a small snack pack lunch. Free travel on the train for the sessions Running from our Motherwell station on the CRP line for a 30mins journey to either Glasgow central
